Happy Monday Everyone!
A friend once told me “If you dread Mondays, and live for weekends.. than your Sh** is broken”. When I first thought about that, I was in shock about how relatable that was to me and my current life.
I started working a Full Time (9am-5pm) job when I was 19 years old, by choice. Over the last 3 years, I’ve began to annoy myself by how much I talk about wanting it to be the weekend, and when the weekend finally comes, I’m unable to enjoy it fully because by Saturday Evening, I’m complaining about how I don’t want Monday to be here already! What sense does that make?!
In America, we grow up so systematized into thinking that once we finish High School, we have to go College, and once you graduate with a Degree, then it’s time for you to contribute to our society by getting a “real” job. This is a Baby Boomer-Generation X mindset!
Baby Boomers and Generation X were so focused on having jobs that could provide them with a comfortable and sustainable living. Fortunately those of you who are considered a Millennial like me, we were born into a life where anything is possible! The “American Dream” does still exist and because of the internet/how much technology has advanced, it can be even more achievable now as long as you are willing to put in the work for it.
I’m not saying that working a 9-5 job is a bad thing, however you shouldn’t feel like that’s what you have to do in order to be successful or to fit the Status Quo of what is expected of an Adult in America.
If the job you are working now doesn’t make you happy, it’s never too early or too late to change your focus onto something that does. Don’t ever let anyone tell you that what you are passionate about isn’t going to make you money or that you won’t ever make a living out of it.
The Hard Truth: Not everyone has the same vision as you and unfortunately not everyone’s future is as bright as yours, so it’s hard for them to fathom what it is that you are going to make happen.
Regardless, you have to do whatever it is that makes you happy! IF you find a 9-5 job that is your dream job, then go for it! However, I find it much more satisfying to spend my time making my dreams come true, compared to spending 8 hours a day solely on building someone else’s dream, as well as being told I’m only worth a certain amount of money per hour.
If you are wondering, I do currently still work a 9-5 job, but over the last 6 months I was able to rewire my mind on what it is that will actually make me happy and what I need to do in order to get to that point. That’s why I’m here today writing this blog, because I know I had to start somewhere! Even though I may be at work 8 hours a day, I’m able to jot down ideas while at work and go home looking forward to executing my vision.
The key is to know that whatever situation you may feel stuck in, is only TEMPORARY. With a plan, an open mind and dedication, anything is possible!
Enjoy your day Loves,
